With the Sales Qualification Agent, Microsoft is expanding Dynamics 365 Sales with an AI-powered assistant that automates classic tasks in lead processing. The agent supports sales teams with research, initial contact, and qualification, aiming above all to provide relief wherever day-to-day sales work generates a lot of manual groundwork.

At the center of it all is automated lead research. The agent creates a comprehensive lead profile by analyzing CRM data from Dynamics 365, incorporating public sources, and factoring in internal knowledge bases. This information results in a structured view of companies, contact persons, and potential opportunities. For sales teams, this means less manual gathering of individual pieces of information and more time for conversations, strategy, and concrete sales opportunities.

Lead evaluation is based on defined criteria. Companies can use their Ideal Customer Profile, or ICP for short, as the basis for this. Relevant factors can include market segment, geography, lead source, or other company-specific parameters. The Sales Qualification Agent checks these characteristics and categorizes leads accordingly. This makes it easier to quickly identify which contacts actually fit your own sales focus.

Another component is the validation and categorization of email addresses. The agent checks whether an address is valid and distinguishes between business and private contact details. These results feed directly into research, outreach, and lead qualification. Especially with larger volumes of leads, this can help structure data more cleanly and reduce unnecessary wasted effort.

Microsoft also relies on automation for outreach. The agent can create personalized email templates, evaluate responses, and identify signs of purchase readiness. Depending on the configuration, automatic sending is also possible. If a lead does not respond or further needs arise, the agent can prepare or trigger follow-ups. The lead is actually handed over to the sales team once it is sufficiently qualified.

Two operating modes are available for use. In Research-Only mode, the agent handles research, assessment, and the creation of email drafts. The final decision and sending remain with the sales team. In Research & Engage mode, automation goes further. The agent can accompany the entire process from research through outreach to follow-up, and hand over qualified leads to the sales team.

Administrators can adapt the Sales Qualification Agent to their own requirements. This includes qualification rules, industry-specific sources, and criteria for handing over qualified leads. This means the agent can not only be activated technically, but also aligned with a company’s sales logic.

With the Sales Qualification Agent, Microsoft is further shifting the use of AI in sales toward autonomous assistance. It is no longer just about finding existing information faster. The agent takes on preparatory tasks, evaluates data, and supports the initial contact. For sales teams, this can be a noticeable gain in efficiency, provided the underlying data, criteria, and handover processes are clearly defined.
